Vugular

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-004069

Describing a type of secondary porosity in carbonate or evaporite rocks characterized by cavities, or vugs, that are significantly larger than the matrix pore spaces. These vugs form from the dissolution of soluble minerals, such as fossils or anhydrite nodules, after the rock has been deposited. Vugular porosity contributes to a reservoir's storage capacity, but its contribution to permeability depends on whether the vugs are interconnected.
