Cubic packing
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000922
A theoretical arrangement of spherical grains in a sedimentary rock where each sphere is directly above and below, and adjacent to, six other spheres, forming a simple cubic lattice. This packing results in a relatively high porosity but is less stable and less common in natural sediments than rhombohedral packing. It represents a specific geometric configuration of sediment grains.
