Packing
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002677
A deformable sealing material or set of components used to create a pressure-tight barrier around a moving or stationary part, such as a valve stem, pump shaft, or polished rod. It functions by being compressed within a stuffing box or gland, expanding radially to prevent fluid from escaping along the shaft. Packing materials range from braided fibers and graphite rings to V-shaped chevron stacks, selected based on pressure, temperature, and fluid compatibility.
