Accommodation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000021
The space available for sediment to accumulate, governed by the combined effects of sea-level change and tectonic subsidence or uplift. An increase in accommodation space, created by rising sea level or subsiding land, promotes the deposition and preservation of sediments that can form reservoir rocks. The rate of sediment supply relative to the rate of accommodation change controls the geometry of sedimentary deposits.
