Depocenter
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001005
A localized area within a sedimentary basin where the maximum thickness of a particular stratigraphic unit or sequence accumulates. These areas are characterized by sustained subsidence and high rates of sediment input, leading to the preservation of thick sedimentary successions. Depocenters are often associated with major fault systems or structural lows that control sediment accumulation.
