Growth fault
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001763
A syndepositional normal fault that forms concurrently with sedimentation, where the thickness of sedimentary layers on the downthrown side is greater than on the upthrown side. These faults often occur in deltaic and passive margin settings, accommodating differential compaction and sediment loading. Growth faults can create structural traps for hydrocarbon accumulation.
