Thrust fault

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003833

A type of reverse fault where the hanging wall moves up and over the footwall, with a dip angle of less than 45 degrees. These faults are characteristic of compressional tectonic regimes and often form in mountain belts. Thrust faults can create complex structural traps for hydrocarbons, particularly in fold-and-thrust belts.
