Orogeny
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002646
A geological process of mountain building that involves the deformation of the Earth's crust, forming folds, faults, and thrust belts. This process results from the collision of tectonic plates, leading to intense compression and uplift. Orogenic events can create structural traps that are favorable for hydrocarbon accumulation, such as those found in the Rocky Mountains.
