Convergence
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000846
The geological process where two or more tectonic plates move toward each other and collide. This movement results in large-scale crustal deformation, including mountain building (orogeny), folding, faulting, and volcanic activity. The three types of convergent boundaries are oceanic-continental, oceanic-oceanic, and continental-continental, each producing distinct geological features and associated petroleum systems.
