Tectonic environment

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003778

The geological setting defined by the style of crustal deformation resulting from the interaction of tectonic plates. This framework governs the development of sedimentary basins and the types of structural traps that form within them. Environments are broadly classified as extensional, compressional, or strike-slip, with each producing characteristic fault and fold patterns that can accumulate oil and gas.
