Relating to or formed from sediment, which consists of particles derived from the weathering and erosion of pre-existing rocks or from the accumulation of organic matter. Sedimentary rocks, such as sandstone, shale, and limestone, are the primary hosts for oil and natural gas deposits. They are characterized by bedding and often contain fossils.
