Back stripping

Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000240

A geological modeling technique used to progressively remove the effects of sediment loading and compaction from a stratigraphic column, allowing reconstruction of past basin geometries and subsidence histories. This process involves decompacting sedimentary layers and accounting for isostatic adjustments. It provides insights into the tectonic evolution and thermal history of sedimentary basins.
