Regressive
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003089
Describing a geological sequence or event characterized by a relative fall in sea level, leading to the progradation of shorelines and the deposition of shallower-water sediments over deeper-water ones. A regressive sequence typically shows an upward coarsening trend in sedimentary rocks. This contrasts with a transgressive sequence, where sea level rises.
