Primary production
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002933
The initial phase of oil and gas recovery that relies on natural reservoir energy to drive hydrocarbons to the wellbore. This energy can come from dissolved gas expansion, water drive, gas cap expansion, or gravity drainage. Primary recovery typically extracts 5-30% of the original oil in place before reservoir pressure declines.
