Reservoir drive mechanisms
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003117
The natural forces within a reservoir that displace hydrocarbons from the pore spaces and propel them toward the wellbore. These mechanisms are classified by the source of energy, including the expansion of reservoir fluids (depletion drive), the expansion of a gas cap (gas cap drive), the influx of underlying water (water drive), or gravity drainage. The dominant drive mechanism dictates the reservoir's pressure decline behavior and ultimate recovery factor.
