Encapsulation
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001299
The process of surrounding drill cuttings with a protective layer of polymer or other material to prevent them from dispersing into the drilling fluid. This action stabilizes the wellbore and reduces the interaction of reactive shales with water-based muds. Encapsulation agents are often high-molecular-weight polymers such as partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (PHPA).
