Encapsulation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003875

The process of confining a substance, such as a catalyst or an enzyme, within a discrete phase or matrix. This confinement creates a microenvironment that isolates the encapsulated material from the bulk medium while permitting the passage of smaller molecules like reactants and products. Common methods include entrapment within polymer gels, such as alginate, or containment within semipermeable microcapsules.
