Biocatalyst
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001248
A substance of biological origin, typically an enzyme or a whole microorganism, that accelerates the rate of a chemical reaction without being consumed in the process. Biocatalysts exhibit high specificity and efficiency under mild reaction conditions. They are widely employed in industrial biotechnology for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals.
