Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012924

Describing a material or product that is wholly or partly derived from biomass, which includes material of biological origin such as plants, animals, and microorganisms. The term indicates the origin of the constituent matter, not the process by which it was produced or its properties, such as biodegradability. The biobased content of a product can be quantified by measuring its carbon-14 content, as specified in standards like ASTM D6866.
