Origin of replication

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008328

A specific sequence of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) where replication of a chromosome or plasmid begins. This site serves as a binding point for initiator proteins, which unwind the DNA double helix to form a replication bubble. In bacteria, there is typically one origin of replication per chromosome.
