Yeast artificial chromosome
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012776
A genetically engineered DNA molecule derived from yeast, capable of carrying large fragments of foreign DNA. It functions as a cloning vector, allowing the replication and maintenance of large eukaryotic DNA inserts within yeast cells. YACs can typically accommodate DNA inserts ranging from 100 kilobases to over 1 megabase in size.
