Biodegradability
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001258
The capability of a material to undergo degradation due to the action of naturally occurring microorganisms, such as bacteria, fungi, and algae. This process typically results in the breakdown of the material into simpler substances like carbon dioxide, water, and biomass. The extent and rate of biodegradation depend on environmental conditions and the material's chemical structure.
