Anaerobic biodegradation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000536

The biological degradation of organic materials, including polymers, by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen. This process typically occurs in environments such as landfills or anaerobic digesters, leading to the production of methane, carbon dioxide, and water. The rate and extent of degradation depend on the polymer's chemical structure and the microbial community.
