Anaerobic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000535
Relating to processes or organisms that occur or live in the absence of molecular oxygen. Anaerobic respiration, for instance, generates energy through metabolic pathways that do not require oxygen as the final electron acceptor. Many bacteria are obligate anaerobes, meaning oxygen is toxic to them.
