Mineralization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007388

The process by which an organic substance is converted into inorganic substances or becomes impregnated with them. In polymer biodegradation it denotes conversion of the polymer's carbon to carbon dioxide and water, with methane also formed under anaerobic conditions. Biomineralization is the narrower case in which cell-mediated processes produce or harden minerals.
