Miniaturisation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007389

The process of reducing the physical size of an assay or analytical system, particularly in the context of high-throughput screening. This involves decreasing the volumes of reagents and samples used, which lowers costs and increases the number of tests that can be performed with a given amount of material. Miniaturisation is achieved by using microplates with a high density of wells, moving from standard 96-well formats to 384-well, 1536-well, or even higher density formats.
