Minamata disease

A neurological syndrome caused by severe mercury poisoning, specifically from the consumption of fish and shellfish contaminated with methylmercury. The condition is characterized by symptoms such as ataxia, numbness in the extremities, muscle weakness, and damage to vision and hearing. It was first identified in Minamata, Japan, in the 1950s following industrial wastewater pollution.
