Biodegradation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001261

The decomposition of organic substances by microorganisms, such as bacteria and fungi, into simpler compounds. This natural process involves enzymatic breakdown, leading to the mineralization of complex molecules into carbon dioxide, water, and biomass. Biodegradation is a key mechanism for the removal of pollutants from the environment.
