Aerobic biodegradation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000307

The biological degradation of organic compounds by microorganisms in the presence of oxygen. During this process, microorganisms use oxygen as the terminal electron acceptor, breaking down polymers into simpler molecules such as carbon dioxide, water, and biomass. This type of biodegradation is common in natural environments like soil and water, contributing to the decomposition of biodegradable polymers.
