The controlled biological process of decomposing organic matter, such as biodegradable polymers, into a stable, humus-like product under aerobic conditions. This process involves microorganisms breaking down complex organic compounds into simpler substances, releasing heat and carbon dioxide. It is a method for managing organic waste and producing soil amendments.
