Bioplastic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001312
A plastic material that is either biobased, biodegradable, or features both characteristics. Biobased plastics are derived wholly or partially from biomass sources like corn starch, while biodegradable plastics can be broken down by microorganisms into natural substances. The term's application does not automatically imply environmental superiority, which requires a formal life cycle assessment to determine.
