Biopolymers
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012928
Polymers produced by living organisms, consisting of monomeric units that are covalently bonded to form larger structures. They are synthesized within cells and include three main classes: polysaccharides, which are polymers of sugars; proteins, which are polymers of amino acids; and nucleic acids like DNA and RNA, which are polymers of nucleotides. Unlike most synthetic polymers, biopolymers typically have a well-defined structure.
