Bioprosthesis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001313
A prosthesis, or artificial body part, constructed from materials of biological origin that have been chemically treated to make them non-antigenic and durable. These devices are designed to replace a damaged or diseased part of the body, such as a heart valve or blood vessel. Common materials include animal tissues like porcine heart valves or bovine pericardium, which are fixed with agents such as glutaraldehyde.
