Thrombogenicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012036
The property of a material that causes or promotes the formation of a thrombus, or blood clot, when it comes into contact with blood. This response involves the activation of platelets and the coagulation cascade, leading to the aggregation of blood components on the material's surface. Materials intended for biomedical devices that contact blood, such as artificial heart valves or vascular grafts, are designed to have very low thrombogenicity.
