Linear electron accelerator

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006619

A device that accelerates electrons to high energies along a straight path using oscillating electromagnetic fields. Electrons are injected into a series of resonant cavities where they gain energy from the electric field. These accelerators are employed in applications such as radiation therapy, industrial processing, and as injectors for larger particle accelerators.
