Electromagnetic field
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003694
The field produced by electric charges and their motion, comprising an electric component and a magnetic component that lie perpendicular to each other in a propagating wave. It exerts forces on other charges and currents, and its oscillating, wave-like form constitutes electromagnetic radiation, from radio waves through visible light to X-rays. Maxwell's equations describe how its strength and direction vary in space and time.
