Electrolytic hygrometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003693
An instrument that measures the absolute moisture content of a gas by absorbing the water vapor into a hygroscopic electrolyte and then electrolyzing it. A film of a substance like phosphorus pentoxide absorbs the water, and the direct current required to electrolyze the water into hydrogen and oxygen is measured. According to Faraday's law, this current is directly proportional to the mass of water absorbed per unit time.
