Mechanical hygrometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007110
An instrument that measures atmospheric humidity by sensing changes in the physical dimensions of a hygroscopic material, such as hair or a specially treated membrane. As the material absorbs or releases moisture, it expands or contracts, and this mechanical movement is translated into a humidity reading. These devices are often calibrated to display relative humidity.
