Magnetron motion

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006918

The circular drift motion of an ion in a Penning ion trap, perpendicular to both the applied magnetic field and the electric field. This motion is slower than the cyclotron motion and is a characteristic feature of ion trajectories in such traps. It arises from the interaction of the ion's velocity with the crossed electric and magnetic fields.
