Mahalanobis distance

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006919

A statistical metric that quantifies how many standard deviations a point is from the center of a multivariate distribution. It accounts for the correlation between variables, effectively transforming the data into an uncorrelated space before calculating the distance. Unlike Euclidean distance, which treats all variables equally, the Mahalanobis distance is scale-invariant and adjusts for the shape of the data cloud.
