End-to-end distance

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003912

The spatial distance between the two terminal atoms or segments of a polymer chain. This parameter provides a measure of the overall size and conformation of a polymer molecule in solution or in a melt. For a random coil polymer, the mean-square end-to-end distance is proportional to the number of statistical segments in the chain.
