Drift velocity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003435
The average velocity attained by charge carriers, such as electrons or holes, in a material under the influence of an applied electric field. This velocity is typically much lower than the random thermal velocity of the carriers. It is directly proportional to the electric field strength and the charge carrier mobility.
