Driving force

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003436

The thermodynamic potential that causes a chemical reaction or physical process to proceed spontaneously. It is typically related to the change in Gibbs free energy (ΔG) for a reaction under constant temperature and pressure. A negative ΔG indicates a spontaneous process with a positive driving force.
