Standard electromotive force
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011289
The electromotive force (EMF) of an electrochemical cell when all reactants and products are in their standard states. This value represents the maximum electrical work that can be obtained from the cell under reversible conditions. It is directly related to the standard Gibbs energy change of the cell reaction by the equation ΔG° = -nFE°, where F is the Faraday constant.
