Charge number

An integer representing the electric charge of an ion, expressed as a multiple of the elementary charge. It indicates both the magnitude and sign of the charge. For example, a sodium ion (Na+) has a charge number of +1, while a chloride ion (Cl-) has a charge number of -1.
