Polar driving force
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009072
The thermodynamic driving force of an outer-sphere electron transfer, expressed as minus the standard Gibbs energy change (-ΔG°) and used for reactions in solvents polar enough that Coulombic work terms are negligible. A larger positive value means a more exergonic transfer. It is the abscissa of Rehm-Weller plots, which correlate electron-transfer quenching rate constants with driving force in photochemistry.
