Non-linear optical effect

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008037

The change in the optical properties of a material when exposed to intense electromagnetic radiation, such as light from a laser. These effects arise from the non-linear response of the material's polarization to the electric field of the light. Examples include second harmonic generation, where light of one frequency is converted to light of double the frequency.
