Second harmonic generation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010606
A nonlinear optical phenomenon where two photons of identical frequency interact with a material, resulting in the creation of a new photon with twice the energy and frequency of the initial photons. This process requires a non-centrosymmetric medium for efficient conversion. It finds application in frequency doubling lasers and in microscopy for imaging biological tissues without staining.
