Cyclotron

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002831

A particle accelerator that uses a constant magnetic field and a rapidly oscillating electric field to accelerate charged particles, such as protons or deuterons, in a spiral path. The particles gain energy with each pass through the electric field until they reach the desired energy and are extracted. Cyclotrons are widely used for producing radioisotopes for medical imaging and research.
