Polyelectrolyte
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002851
A polymer whose repeating units bear an electrolyte group, meaning they can dissociate into charged ions in a solvent. In drilling fluids, polyelectrolytes are used as flocculants, dispersants, or fluid loss control agents, depending on their charge and molecular weight. An example is polyacrylamide, which can be anionic or cationic.
